Comment on How Will You Celebrate Freedom Day? by Jack.
Ever since my accident way back when, I’ve always worked towards financial freedom.
Occasionally working for myself, occasionally unemployed, always saving and investing.
It’s amazing what you can accomplish once you’ve realized what your priorities and goals are, and finally get your plan in place and start executing. Some would call it limited or restrictive, but no one can do everything, so as soon as you focus on what you can do, it’s remarkably freeing.

Why Should You Hire Someone To File Your Taxes?
Still doing my taxes myself with Taxcut since they’re still simple.
Looking forward to when my assets and cash flows are complex enough to require an expert. As you point out, accountants and lawyers are great connections into the broader local business community.
Not So Fun Friday: Time to Start Working Out Again
I was doing great until the boys were born. Now I’m 30 pounds overweight, but hoping to get back to exercise early morning now that the baby is sleeping through the night more often than not.
Ellipticals and stationary bikes are the best for reading back into exercise. If you’re bored, try watching a personal finance video you’re planning to write about.
Drowning in Email: What is the Solution?
I’m ruthless about removing email I don’t use. For example, I only subscribe to a few websites for email updates, and rely on an RSS reader for the rest.
Emails from Enwealthen I address promptly, e.g.comment moderation. I only check spam comments once a month, if that. Akismet has done a great job of flagging spam with few false positives.
For social media, I’ve eliminated all email notifications. I check my accounts on my schedule, and act as needed.
There are always some emails sitting in my inbox waiting attention, but they’re usually long term projects, e.g. email courses.
I know some people try to maintain “inbox zero”. I don’t think that’s an effective strategy for most. But it’s up to everyone to decide what prices works best for them. Personally, I rely on mail filters to keep my inbox clear of everything automated. This way I can see direct emails to me quickly, and decide when I want to read any of the others.
Mailing List Pains – Is it Time for a Paid Solution?
My mailing list is still relatively small, so I’m using free solutions too.
I recently switched to MailerLite and have been happy so far. They’re small and hungry and it seems like they’re adding new features every week. I like that I can send an RSS auto email which is an excerpt of my post and includes the featured image.
That said, the emails do go out once per day.
My recommendation is to set a frequency – daily, MWF, whatever – and a time – 5am, 12noon, etc. – and then set your RSS campaign appropriately. This way you can schedule your posts, and your readers know when to expect to hear from you. Reduce your workload, and build a sense of expectation in your readers. Plus, if you’re not posting daily, it lets you build up that queue of posts so you don’t get burned out, and can take some time off and know your readers will still have something interesting to read.
Automation, and scheduling, are your friends, if you let them.
Learning to Play an Instrument Provides Benefits
I studied music from about 6 through high school but never pursued it past that.
Definite benefits besides the obvious (pitch & rhythm) – focus, thinking ahead, teamwork. I can’t comment on the claims of psychological benefits, not having a non-musical twin.
It certainly was a lot of time invested, but I enjoyed it when I was playing. Just didn’t enjoy it enough to be willing to try to make a living at it. Computer science is much more lucrative.
