Yesterday, I received an early Christmas present. I won a drawing for a premium subscription to the stock selection service, Simply Wall St.
The drawing was sponsored by Martin, creator of the personal finance site, Get Fire’d ASAP. Martin writes about his life as a 50-something financially independent, early retiree living in Australia.
One of the interesting aspects of Get Fire’d ASAP is Martin’s reflection on what to do with yourself when you’re no longer forced to work a regular job to earn a living. Along that line, Martin recently launched an online business targeting the growing epidemic of drug abuse. But the difference between this venture and what has come before is that working is much better when you don’t need to work.
This is a similar feeling to what I’ve been experiencing over the past 18 months. After spending over 20 years in business, it can be something of a shock to suddenly find yourself no longer working. When you’re used to constant conference calls, meetings, business travel, and managing employee problems daily, you can sometimes miss your old life.
I’m sure this is one of the reasons I’ve been looking to buy a traditional business and/or start an online business. More to come on that later.
Once I get up and running on Simply Wall St, I’ll write a review and let everyone know how it’s going.
Thanks again, Martin.
By the way, the local forecast here is calling for a decent chance at a white Christmas for the first time in a decade. But we’ll just wait and see what happens. Snow storms are pretty infrequent here in the sunny southwest.
Hopefully, you have all your holiday shopping finished so you can avoid the crowds and you can spend the day relaxing with friends and family sipping a little egg nog watching your favorite holiday movie.
Have a Merry Christmas!
